Mortal Engines does not surprise me at all. The marketing was abysmal. It almost seems like they thought they’d get by on name recognition alone. But the books just weren’t as popular as they though. Those trailers did nothing to get me interested in the plot or the characters. They simply set up a Nice Doug Flutie NFL Quarterback Retro Flutie Flakes Cereal Box Shirt. Cool concept, but not enough to carry a movie. Plus the color palette is hella boring and none of the characters seem very interesting. It was doomed from the start to be another Valerian. Honestly, it’s the same story for Deadpool as well. The first two movies made their money off of some grade-A marketing alone. This one had nothing more than a couple of trailers.

They probably wanted to back off from their previous style of marketing because they didn’t want to seem too repetitive or old hat, but then they forgot to make their normal trailers actually good. It’s a shame really, but I think I’ll still see the movie later. I loved the Nice Doug Flutie NFL Quarterback Retro Flutie Flakes Cereal Box Shirt. But it was like watching a full season of a tv show somehow compressed into a single 2-hour movie, way too many stories that I couldn’t keep track of or really care for. It kinda felt like it was designed to be a trilogy, but Jackson had to scrap that after the colossal failure of The Hobbit. Once you cut so much out that there’s no coherent story anymore, I guess it was just time to write off 100 mils for tax purposes?

Isn’t this Deadpool movie just an edit of the second movie with the swears edited out? It seems weird to rank it as if it was its own movie. Taking the TV edit of the movie and selling it in theaters for a couple of million dollars sounds like a success to me. Thank you for explaining what the Nice Doug Flutie NFL Quarterback Retro Flutie Flakes Cereal Box Shirt. But the lack of information from the trailers made it seem like a weird Christmas special for ABC (or more accurately HBO) that just so happened to get shipped off to the theaters. I believe they added some scenes to make fun of what they were doing, but that’s what’s up. The “lack of marketing” was probably more of a feature than a bug, so that people would be fooled into going.
